There is a worrying trend developing especially amongst young people. Instead of more common forms of contraception like condoms people are choosing the pull out method instead. What is the pull out method? It’s when the man doesn’t wear contraception but chooses to pull out at the time of climax instead. There is lots to think about here.

Firstly let’s look at the reasons behind this worrying trend. A lot of people choose not to buy contraceptives as they feel embarrassed and worried. Then there is the sad statistic that some people can’t even afford contraception, in this case we urge you to visit a sexual health clinic where condoms and a sexual health check will be provided for free. The more worrying fact is that younger people are refusing to wear condoms simply because it feels better.

What you need to consider is no amount of pleasure is worth your long term health. The risks involved in the pull out method far outweigh any pleasure you derive from said act. By choosing this method you are at risk of STI’s, STD’s and pregnancy.

What is the difference between STI’s and STD’s? So basically, STI stands for sexually transmitted infection and STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. Now the terms are usually used alongside each other with most people not knowing there is a difference between the two. People who get infected don’t necessarily have any symptoms or have their infection develop into a disease.

So the risks are plain for all to see, ask yourself is your health really worth it? Let’s take a look at the most common diseases and infections and there official definitions….

HPV

Human papillomavirus is a viral infection, it can be passed on by skin to skin contact – there are over 100 different types of HPV, 40 of which are actually passed on through sexual
contact. HPV can affect your genitals, mouth or throat. According to research done by the Centres for disease control and prevention it is the most common sexually transmitted disease that affects women and men, its actually thought to be so common that the majority of sexually active people will get some form of HPV even if they don’t have many sexual partners.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is what is known as a bacterial infection. For you guys using the pull out method and not wearing a condom – This is how Chlamydia is passed on – Through unprotected sex. Chlamydia is particularly common amongst the younger generation, sexually active teenagers and young adults. Here in the UK they actually recommend you get tested for Chlamydia every year or when you change your sexual partner.

Gonorrhea

Again, Gonorrhea being a bacterial infection – Luckily this can be cured with a dose of medication pretty easily, though were pretty sure you stIll don’t want to catch it in the first place! Gonorrhea is sometimes referred to as the clap or the drip. You can spread Gonorrhea through vaginal, anal and oral sex – The infection itself is carried in semen, vaginal fluids and even pre cum – So if you are too slow to pull out it may already be too late. This particular bacterial infection can affect the penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, throat and even the eyes in some cases – But that is pretty rare. It can’t be passed on through none sexual contact though so that rules out sharing food or dinks and kissing etc.

Having an STD can also make it easier for you to contract HIV, according to wiki the human immunodeficiency virus is what causes the HIV infection and over time – Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDs is a condition in humans in which the progressive failure of the immune system allows life threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Having considered the risks to your overall health the pull out method could have disastrous effects

So what’s the worst that can happen? Well if you aren’t content with catching every know sexually transmitted disease known to man what about pregnancy? An ill-timed withdrawal and bang! Congratulations on becoming a parent guys! How will you cope? How will you explain it to your parents? What will the neighbours think? Ok scratch that last one, we don’t care what the neighbours think. Seriously though, bringing life into the world should be the most beautiful experience and conceiving from the pull out method of contraception is not an ideal start is it guys? Let’s face it an unplanned pregnancy is not the end of the World but will certainly place you under a lot of stress all for the sake of one night of fun.
